Meet Mr. Blends. At a young age, his interest in music was sparked. The sharing of different genres within his family helped him develop an eclectic taste for music, such as Disco, Funk, 90s Hip Hop, House music, oldies, Soul Music, and Techno. His exposure to different styles of music has helped shape him as a DJ. As his involvement in music grew, Mr. Blends started to expand his vinyl collection as well. Although he remembers starting his record collection at the age of twelve, there was a feeling of foreshadowing in the years to come. At the age of eighteen, he started going to raves and parties, where there was always one element present: the DJ. Through his curiosity, he purchased an entry-level controller and speakers. From that moment on, the rest was history; he knew instantly he was meant to be a DJ. Soon after, his next piece of DJ equipment was two Reloop RP-7000 MK2 turntables and a Behringer DJ mixer. All those years of collecting vinyl records had served their purpose.
His love for DJing was also ignited by an exploration of documentaries on the history of DJing and Electronic dance music. Some of his favorite docs on DJing are “Scratch,” “I Was There When House Took Over the World,” and “Can You Feel It How Dance Music Took Over the World.” These documentaries further fulfilled his involvement in the art of DJing. These cinematic glimpses into the world of DJing weren't just fleeting inspirations; they were catalysts that propelled him closer to his calling. Although Mr. Blends is a DJ, he also is a barber currently cutting at the Stork Social Club located in La Verne. He expresses himself through his haircuts, creating a great experience with his customer service.
At the start of his career, Mr. Blends went from DJing in his room to DJing at Mt San Antonio College with the Mt Sac DJ team. Currently, in the Audio Arts program pursuing his AA, he believes that the DJ Program has allowed him to nurture his sound and has allowed him to find his way as a DJ. The style that he has created for himself would be associated with the grooves of Chicago house and the aggressive boom factor of Detroit techno, and with the help of Disco and its trance-like state, these genres combined allowed him to create a unique sound of Mr. Blends. Each gig is a canvas that transports his audience amidst the pulsating lights and reverberating beats.
Yet, in a world where some may reduce DJs to mere human iPods, Mr. Blends stands tall, a beacon of authenticity and artistry. Mr. Blends doesn't just see DJing as pressing buttons or spinning records; he perceives it as a multi-dimensional art form, a symphony of sound that demands both skill and intuition to master. For him, it's not about hogging the spotlight; it's about letting the music take center stage, its vibrations echoing through the souls of those who listen. Because in the end, it's all about celebrating the transformative power of music and the timeless art of DJing—a lesson he learned from the luminaries who paved the way before him.
